Legend of the Bluebonnet

dePaola, T. (1983). The legend of the bluebonnet. NY: Putnam.

The land of the Comanche people is dying and the spirits have revealed that the people are too selfish and need to sacrifice their most prized possessions. She-who-is-alone sacrifices her doll that is all she has left of her family and saves her people.

I would use this book to teach ELA TEK 2. 6(A) identify moral lessons as themes in well-known fables, legends, myths, or stories. I would show students the definition of legend, myth, and story as well as examples of each. Then we would discuss what features of a legend this book has then have them determine if it is a legend, myth, or story.
