The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Alexie, S. (2007). The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian. NY: Little Brown.

indina

Junior is a fourteen year old Spokane indian who lives and attends school on his indian reservation. He hates his school because he knows that he deserves more from it. Once he discovers this, he works hard to find a way to be able to attend  a public school that is not on his reservation. This causes problems for him and his sense of identity as well as causing  a rift between him and his one friend. In the end, he stays in his new school and even gets decent grades at the end of the book. I loved how this book was really funny and a quick and easy read. (I read it while walking on the treadmill and could not stop laughing.) It would be great for kids who struggle with who they are as well as who might be having tough times at home.
